What is the ruling on money earned by a tour guide who adds an amount to the price of tours in exchange for his effort and time, after the employer refused to give him the customary share of the profit?

If what you are obligated to do falls within your agreed-upon work, then you are not entitled to demand additional payment, based on the words of the Almighty: "O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts," and the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Muslims are bound by their conditions."

However, if the work is outside the scope of the contract, you may demand payment or refuse to perform it until they pay you. But it is not permissible to add a fee to the product on your own accord, based on the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Return the trust to the one who entrusted you, and do not betray the one who betrayed you."

Furthermore, your work in guiding tourists to pagan temples is not permissible, due to its promotion of pagan religions, its contradiction of the Islamic Sharia's objective of inviting to monotheism, and entering places of torment for polytheists. Therefore, one must be aware of what is permissible and impermissible in tourism work, even if it generates much wealth.
