What is the authenticity and meaning of the Hadith which states that in Hell there is a valley from which Hell itself seeks refuge 400 times daily, and that it has been prepared for the hypocrites (those who show off) from the Ummah of Muhammad, including the carrier of the Book of Allah, the one who gives charity for other than the sake of Allah, the pilgrim, and the one who goes forth in the path of Allah?

The meaning of the Hadith is clear in warning against ostentation (riya') and the severe punishment for those who practice it. This Hadith was narrated by Al-Tabarani in Al-Kabeer with the aforementioned wording, and by others with different wordings. It is a weak Hadith, as the scholars have stated, and Al-Albani declared it weak in Silsilat al-Ahadith ad-Da'ifah wal-Mawdu'ah (Series of Weak and Fabricated Hadiths).
