The question

How can one rid oneself of watching pornography and practicing masturbation? Do these acts affect a girl's marriage to a righteous man, or expose her to trials concerning her honor? Will Allah take revenge on her after sincere repentance? When is ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory after masturbation? Is it permissible to wash the hair at one time and the body at another?

The answer

One must hasten to sincere repentance from sins, for Allah accepts sincere repentance. If you persist [in sin], you expose yourself to His punishment. Among the things that help with repentance are: contemplating death and its terrors, being mindful of standing before Allah and your accountability, reflecting on Allah's names and attributes and the severity of His might, frequently engaging in remembrance (dhikr) and supplication (du'a) and seeking refuge in Him, and associating with good people while abandoning the company of evil ones. As for ghusl (ritual bath) after masturbation, it is obligatory if semen is discharged. According to the majority of scholars, it is permissible to perform the ghusl in parts, though it is more cautious to perform it consecutively.
