In some countries, the term "zawiya" is used for small mosques. Prayer is permissible in them, even if there is a larger congregational mosque outside of them. However, it is preferable to pray in the mosque with the larger congregation, if possible. As for Friday prayer in zawiyas, it is sufficient if there is a need for it, due to the small capacity of congregational mosques or their distance.
