What are the necessary precautions for carrying a pocket-sized Qur’an outside the home?

It is good to carry a small Mus'haf (copy of the Qur'an) to utilize time by reading the Qur'an, while observing the etiquette of carrying it: It is not permissible to touch or carry the Mus'haf except with complete ritual purity. It is also not permissible to take it into the restroom unless there is an extreme necessity (such as fear of burning, drowning, dishonor, or forgetting it). Furthermore, it must not be exposed to any form of dishonor.
