Is looking at the Mus'haf without moving the lips considered recitation of the Qur'an, and is one rewarded for it, or is it necessary to pronounce it audibly to receive the reward of recitation?

There is no impediment to looking at the Qur’an for contemplation and understanding its meaning, but this is not considered recitation nor does it entail its virtue unless the reciter pronounces the Qur’an. This is based on the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: “Recite the Qur’an, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions,” and his saying: “Whoever recites a letter from the Qur’an will have a good deed, and a good deed is multiplied tenfold.” One is not considered a reciter except by pronouncing the words.
