The stability and continuity of married life are fundamental goals in Islam. The marriage contract aims for permanence, enabling the spouses to raise their children properly. Allah has called the relationship between spouses a "solemn covenant," so it should not be subjected to weakness or severance for the slightest reason. To preserve this relationship, Islamic law has forbidden a wife from seeking divorce without a valid reason. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Any woman who asks her husband for divorce without any strong reason, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her." As for what the judge will mandate, it cannot be predicted because he rules based on what he hears from both litigants. It is advisable to be patient and overlook disagreements to avoid the harms of divorce and its negative consequences, especially concerning the upbringing of children.
