Is a person held accountable for rancor or envy towards whoever wronged or envied him, and how can one protect oneself from the evil eye, especially the mother's eye, despite reciting the prescribed remembrances and supplications for protection?

There is no blame upon the wronged person for feeling resentment towards the oppressor, and it is permissible for him to await an opportunity to reclaim his right. However, forgiveness and supplicating for the oppressor's forgiveness and guidance are superior. To protect oneself from the evil eye, it is recommended to consistently recite the prescribed supplications (adhkar) and perform ruqyah (definition) ash-shar'iyyah (Islamic incantations). If the person who cast the evil eye is known, he should be ordered to perform ghusl (definition) (ritual bathing) or wudu' (ablution), and the water from his ghusl or wudu' should be poured over the afflicted person. We also advise showing filial piety to one's mother and not accusing her or thinking ill of her without proof, as ill-thinking of a Muslim is a sin.
