Is it permissible to build a women's section affiliated with the mosque, yet separated from it by a distance exceeding 9 meters?

Scholars differ concerning one who prays outside the mosque, with a barrier between him and his Imam such that he can neither see the Imam nor anyone among the congregants who can see him. The more cautious opinion is to prohibit it unless there is a need.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: "If there is a barrier between them that prevents sight and passage, there are several opinions... It is also said: it is permissible with a need, and not permissible without a need. There is no doubt that it is absolutely permissible with a need."

The Malikis hold that it is permissible to have a separation between the Imam and the congregant in all cases, unless the congregant cannot hear the Imam's pronouncements, nor see his actions, nor the pronouncements or actions of any of his congregants.

It is advised to rectify the place so that women can see the Imam, or someone who can see him. As for the current situation of women, it is better for them to pray in their homes, as that is better for them.
