Is it permissible to study at a mixed-gender university where an Islamic environment is available and there is a mosque where Friday prayers are performed, while being diligent in one's religion and keeping company with religious people? Or is it better to study at a non-mixed-gender university of a lower educational standard and change one's major, especially since the non-Muslim father rejects the idea of studying at a non-mixed-gender university and will cover the university expenses?

Studying in co-educational universities is an evil and a temptation, unless absolutely necessary. If a non-co-educational and beneficial university is available, enrolling in it is more preferable and safer for one's religion. There is no obedience to a father in studying at a co-educational university.

However, if the non-co-educational university is very weak, and there is a strong need for a co-educational university with safety from temptation, then there is no harm in attending only as much as is necessary.

It is obligatory to associate with good people and cooperate with them in goodness, to be dutiful to one's parents and treat them kindly, and to strive for their guidance through supplication, good advice, and good example.
