The question

Is it obligatory for me to provide for my wife, and is she entitled to anything other than the deferred dower (mu'akhkhar as-sadaq) in the event of her divorce, knowing that she is suffering from sorcery, and her family has asked her to file a lawsuit and demand half of my property?

The answer

We ask Allah to grant your wife healing, and we commend your avoidance of charlatans, for resorting to them is evil and may lead to (polytheism). So, stay away from them and seek refuge in Allah, for He is the Healer. You must also take the legitimate means to resolve the sorcery.

The foundation of marital life is affection, mercy, and mutual respect. If these are lost and separation becomes better, Allah Almighty says: "But if they separate, Allah will enrich each of them from His abundance." If a divorce occurs, the wife is not entitled to half of what you own; rather, she is entitled to the deferred dowry, the mut'ah (compensatory gift), maintenance, and housing during the ' (waiting period).
