Is it permissible to quit one's job or drastically reduce its hours, to the extent that one only earns enough for their daily sustenance, in order to perform prayers with tranquility and devotion, and will a person be rewarded for doing so?

The believer is required to achieve balance among life's functions, so that no one aspect overrides another. Thus, he works to earn his livelihood without being distracted from acts of worship. Allah Almighty praised this type of person in His saying: "Men whom neither commerce nor selling distracts from the remembrance of Allah and performance of prayer and giving of zakah." Our righteous predecessors balanced work and worship; they did not abandon their work, but they prioritized obedience to Allah. Upon hearing the call to prayer, they would leave their sales and head for prayer. Therefore, we advise you to follow this approach, striving to maintain your chastity and provide for your dependents, while being keen on achieving humility in prayer and abandoning thoughts of the world and its preoccupations.
