Is it permissible for a married woman who is having an illicit affair with another married man to seek a divorce from her husband in order to marry that man, with the intention of stopping the commission of further sins?
First: Repent sincerely to Allah for mixing with this man. Sever all ties with him, change your phone number, erase his number, and be serious in overcoming this situation by supplicating, feeling remorse, and resolving not to return to the sin. Be ashamed before Allah, who knows your secret and open deeds.
Second: Hasten to repent and feel remorse. If you fall, do not despair; rather, seek forgiveness and be among those who remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins, and do not persist in them.
Third: Increase in righteous deeds and seeking forgiveness, strive against your soul, associate with righteous women, read the biographies of the righteous, and beware of the company of those who commit sins.
Fourth: Do not disclose this sin to anyone; rather, conceal yourself with the concealment of Allah.
Fifth: Draw closer to your husband, be a good wife to him, adorn yourself for him, and seek chastity through him from what is forbidden. Be keen on having marital relations with him to suppress your desires for strangers.
Sixth: Increase in supplicating to Allah to help you maintain chastity, purify your heart, and protect your private parts.
Seventh: Increase in the remembrance of Allah and seeking refuge from Satan whenever you think of a stranger.
Eighth: Avoid looking at strangers, being alone with them, and thinking about them. Remember Allah's command to lower the gaze.
Ninth: Maintain the obligatory prayers and increase in supererogatory ones, for prayer prohibits immorality and evil.
Tenth: Increase in reading books of encouragement and warning, associate with righteous sisters, and listen to beneficial religious tapes.
Eleventh: Beware of following desires, and remember the virtue of Paradise for one who feared the standing before his Lord and restrained the soul from inclination.
Twelfth: Keep in mind Allah's prohibition of indecencies and their punishment, and remember that faith departs from the fornicator.
Thirteenth: If the problem persists, you may seek khul' (divorce initiated by the wife) from your husband if you fear that you will not fulfill Allah's right in obeying Him. However, this solution should only be resorted to after despair and after performing Istikhara (prayer for guidance) and seeking consultation.
