What is the interpretation of verse 75 of Surah Al-Baqarah and verse 13 of Surah Al-Ma'idah?

Verse 75 of Surat Al-Baqarah: "Do you covet that they will believe you, while a party of them used to hear the Word of Allah and then distort it after they had understood it, and they were knowing?" This verse refers to the Jewish scholars who knowingly distorted the Torah, making lawful what is unlawful and unlawful what is lawful, out of their whims and interests.

As for verse 13 of Surat Al-Ma'idah: "So for their breaking of their covenant, We cursed them and made their hearts hard. They distort words from their [original] meanings and have forgotten a portion of that by which they were reminded. And you will still observe deceit among them, except a few of them. So pardon them and overlook; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good." This verse confirms that they distorted their scriptures and broke their covenants, and that they are people of betrayal and treachery. It also contains an invitation to the Prophet (peace be upon him) to pardon and overlook them. It was said that this verse is abrogated by the verses of fighting.
