What is the evidence for the distortion of the Torah and the Gospel, and what is the interpretation of the verse, "And how do they make you judge when they have the Torah, in which is the judgment of Allah?"

The distortion of the Torah and the Gospel by the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) is confirmed by the Holy Quran, as in the Almighty's saying: "Among those who are Jews are some who distort words from their [original] places." And by the Prophetic Hadiths, such as the Hadith of Umar in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not ask the People of the Book about anything, for they will not guide you, and they have gone astray. And you would either deny a truth or believe a falsehood." This distortion is evident in their attributing evil deeds to the prophets and their disagreement regarding the crucifixion of Christ. The verse (But how do they make you judge while they have the Torah, in which is the judgment of Allah?) is a reprimand to the Jews who abandon Allah's judgment found in the Torah and come to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, hoping that he will agree with their distortions.
