Is it mentioned that the people of Noah were descendants of Cain (Qabil) in His — Exalted be He — saying: "And recite to them the news of Noah, when he said to his people, “O my people, if my residence and my reminding you of the signs of Allah has become hard upon you, then in Allah I have put my trust. So resolve upon your affair and [call upon] your partners; then let not your affair be in darkness for you. Then decree [what you will] against me and do not postpone. And if you turn away, then I have not asked you for any payment. My payment is only from Allah, and I have been commanded to be of the Muslims”" (Surat Yunus: 71-72)?

The Quran and Sunnah do not state that Adam's progeny was limited to Cain and Abel. Rather, Adam (peace be upon him) had many children, from whom humanity proliferated. This is supported by the Almighty's saying: ﴿O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.﴾

Some scholars have mentioned that the lineages of all the Children of Adam trace back to Seth, the son of Adam. Scholars have not found any evidence attributing Noah's people to Cain, the son of Adam. What they have found is that Noah's people worshipped idols: Wadd, Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uq, and Nasr, and that the one who depicted these images for them was Cain or his son. Scholars have mentioned the lineage of Noah (peace be upon him) as: "Noah ibn Lamech ibn Methuselah ibn Enoch, who is Idris, ibn Jared ibn Mahalalel ibn Kenan ibn Enosh ibn Seth ibn Adam, the father of mankind, peace be upon him." This indicates that it also represents the lineage of his people.
