The answer

Depositing money in an interest-bearing bank and taking interest from it is strictly forbidden, as it is a loan with interest, which is precisely the forbidden usury (riba). Its perpetrator is deserving of the punishment mentioned in the words of Allah the Almighty: "O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers. And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger." (2:278-279) And in the words of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Allah has cursed the one who consumes riba and the one who feeds it." It is obligatory to withdraw the money from the interest-bearing bank and dispose of the interest in charitable ways, because it is illicit wealth. The money should be invested in permissible trade, for whoever fears Allah, He will make for him ease in his affair.
