What is the meaning of the noble verse: (He said, "O Noah, indeed he is not of your family; indeed, he is [the result of] unrighteous work, so ask Me not about that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, I advise you, lest you be among the ignorant")? And what is meant by His saying, "so ask Me not about that of which you have no knowledge"? And what are the supplications that may be considered asking Allah about something of which the supplicant has no knowledge, and how can that be avoided?

The Almighty's saying: ﴿إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ﴾ (Indeed, he is not of your family) means he is not of your family whom you were promised to be saved, because he was a disbeliever. And he was his biological son, as al-Tabari and al-Qurtubi preferred. And the meaning of ﴿إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ﴾ (Indeed, he is an unrighteous deed) means that the son was of unrighteous deed due to his disbelief, or that Noah's question was an unrighteous deed. The forbidden question is to supplicate with something that contravenes the Sharia, or with something whose compliance with the Sharia one does not know, as in the Hadith: "The supplication of any one of you will be answered as long as he does not supplicate for a sin or for the severing of kinship ties." And His saying: ﴿إِنِّي أَعِظُكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ﴾ (Indeed, I advise you lest you be among the ignorant) means I warn you against being among the ignorant, or I elevate you from the station of the ignorant. In summary: A Muslim must only supplicate with what conforms to the Sharia.
