What is the ruling on someone who sits in their workplace or on a means of transport and hears songs and music emanating from a colleague, knowing that they have already advised their colleague about it?

Listening to songs and music differs from hearing them. Listening [istimāʿ] is intentionally seeking to hear, whereas hearing [samʿ] can be intentional or unintentional. If a person is compelled to be in a place where there are forbidden musical instruments and songs, there is no sin upon him if he turns away with his heart and does not pay attention to them. He should also enjoin good and forbid evil to the best of his ability.
