Was smoking known during the time of the Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him?

Smoking was not known during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. However, Islam is a message valid for every time and place, and it has laid down general rules for judging every new matter, such as Allah's saying: (and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the impure things), and the Prophet's saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm."
