Are the consequences the same for one who has intercourse with his wife during the daytime in Ramadan and one who commits adultery during the daytime in Ramadan, in terms of the obligation of expiation (kaffarah)?

If a fasting person intentionally engages in sexual intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan, their fast is invalidated, and they are obligated to make up for the fast (qada') and offer expiation (kaffara), regardless of whether the intercourse was permissible or impermissible. Expiation is due for intentional sexual intercourse, whether it was with one's wife or a non-mahram woman. The sin of fornication (zina) in Ramadan remains, and it is a compounded sin due to the magnification of the transgression based on the time and place.
