What is the ruling of the Shari'ah concerning disputes between the mother and the wife, given the wife's refusal for the mother to return to live in the home, and the mother's refusal to live with another son, and what is the husband's duty to reconcile their differences?

The rights of a mother are immense, and showing dutifulness to her is among the most obligatory duties. Allah has commanded kindness to her, especially in old age, and it is mentioned in the Sunnah that the mother is the most deserving of dutifulness.

However, the wife has rights by virtue of the marriage contract, including the right to an independent dwelling. Therefore, it is not permissible for the husband to house anyone with her in her home without her consent.

If the wife refuses to live with the mother, the husband has no right to force her. Rather, he should remind her of the virtue of honoring parents and its positive impact on their lives. If the refusal persists, the husband must provide an independent dwelling for his mother near him, or allocate a separate space for each of them within a spacious house, if available.

The husband is advised to supplicate and seek Allah's help in mending relations and fostering affection between the mother and the wife.
