Is it permissible to marry a committed young man who bought a house with an interest-based loan, knowing that he consulted scholars who issued a fatwa permitting it, and would rejecting marriage to him be considered a sin?
Usurious lending is strictly prohibited, based on the Almighty's saying: (O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers. And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger. But if you repent, you may have your principal - [thus] you do no wrong, nor are you wronged), and based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who consumes Riba (interest), the one who feeds it to others, its scribe, and its two witnesses," and he said: "They are all equal." If this young man is pleasing in his faith and character, then seek Allah's guidance through Istikhara and accept marriage to him, for no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. He must repent to Allah and resolve not to return to that in the future.
