The answer

Reciting the Quran in congregation takes four forms:

1. One person recites while the others listen: This is recommended by the consensus of jurists. 2. Reciting a section, then another person repeats it (reciprocal study - mudārasah): This is recommended by the consensus of jurists. 3. Reciting a section, then another person continues from where the first left off (idārah): The majority of scholars deem it permissible and good, while the Hanbalis dislike it. The preponderant opinion is that it is permissible. 4. All recite in one voice: The Hanbalis and Shafi'is recommend this, while the Malikis and Hanafis (according to the relied-upon view) dislike it due to its abandonment of listening and heeding, and the mixing of voices. Therefore, this last form should be avoided.
