Does a divorce occur by saying "Go, and you are divorced" as a joke without the intention of divorce?

Divorce uttered with clear wording, whether seriously or jokingly, takes effect and does not require intention. This is based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "There are three things which, whether done seriously or in jest, are taken seriously: marriage, divorce, and رجعة (taking back one's wife)." So, if a husband addresses his wife with a clear divorce utterance, the divorce takes effect. If this divorce is not the third and final one, he can take his wife back before her 'iddah (waiting period) ends. One must be cautious about toying with these words due to the serious legal consequences that result from them.
