Does divorce occur by saying "You are divorced" as a joke or an act, with the intention of showing that this would happen "if" the wife were to hit the husband?

It is not permissible to joke with words of divorce. If a man utters them, his divorce is effective, whether he was serious or joking, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "There are three matters, which, whether undertaken seriously or in jest, are considered serious: marriage, divorce, and revocation." The ruling does not differ if they are spoken in dialect. So, if a man says to his wife: "You are divorced," the divorce takes effect. However, if the man claims that he intended the divorce to be conditional on a certain action (such as: "I meant if you stood up"), then the judge rules that the divorce has taken effect based on the apparent meaning. But if the wife believes him regarding his intention and the matter does not reach a judge, then the divorce does not take effect. If the man's intention was to say to his wife: "You are divorced" if she hit him, then no divorce takes effect. If this was not his intention, then the divorce has occurred.
