How can verse 234 of Surat Al-Baqarah abrogate verse 240 of it, knowing that the abrogating verse comes in order after the abrogated one?

The majority of scholars hold that verse 240 of Surat Al-Baqarah is abrogated by verse 234 of the same surah. This should not be surprising, as the arrangement of the Mushaf is not according to the order of revelation. The Qur’an was revealed all at once to the lowest heaven, then revealed piecemeal. If it were arranged according to the order of revelation, Surat Al-Alaq would be first, yet it is in the last part of the Mushaf.
