Is a girl's statement "I marry myself to you" to a religious scholar and well-known figure, and his statement "I accept," considered a legitimate marriage, despite the parents' rejection and the age difference? What is the ruling on communication and physical relations that did not include intercourse, and is it obligatory to please the parents in this situation?
The guardian is a condition for the validity of the marriage. The woman must request a divorce from this man or refer the matter to the Sharia judge to annul the invalid marriage. There is no sin upon them for the previous seclusion if they believed the marriage to be valid. If the man wishes to marry her, he must try to convince her guardian. Otherwise, she may refer the matter to the judge to marry her to a suitable man. If the marriage does not take place, the relationship with him must be completely severed. Caution should be exercised regarding conversation and mixing between unrelated genders, and whoever has been blessed with knowledge by Allah should be a good example.
