What is the ruling on working long hours, which leads to delaying prayers and sometimes missing them due to sleep, and to shortcomings in reciting the Qur’an? And is it obligatory to stop the additional work and suffice with one job?
It is not permissible to delay the prayer beyond its appointed time due to work; rather, it is obligatory to allocate a part of the time for its performance. If you fail to do so and delay the prayer until its time has passed, then you are disobedient and warned by the words of Allah Almighty: (There succeeded them a later generation who neglected prayers and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil) and His saying: (So woe to those who pray [But] who are heedless of their prayer). And "heedless" means delaying the prayer beyond its time. Prayer should be prioritized over overtime work if it is not possible to combine the two.
