What is the ruling on one who says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, failed in the journey to Ta'if?

It is not permissible to use such phrases in reference to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, because they contradict what is obligatory upon a Muslim: to revere the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and to avoid anything that diminishes his status. As Allah the Almighty said: "That you may believe in Allah and His Messenger and venerate him and honor him and exalt Him morning and afternoon." (Quran 48:9) Sheikh al-Islam has explained that veneration includes revering and honoring him. As for the statement that he, peace and blessings be upon him, was defeated, it is not impermissible. The Prophet's journey to Ta'if had great benefits, including the faith of a group of jinn and Allah's honoring him with the Night Journey and Ascension (Al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj). In addition, using the term "failure" is linguistically incorrect in this context, as its meaning is: laziness, weakness, slackness, and cowardice.
