Why are disliked dreams interpreted in dream interpretation books and accompanied by Quranic verses, even though a disliked vision is attributed to Satan and has no interpretation?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Dreams are of three types: a vision from Allah (beloved, for good tidings or warning, it is sunnah to praise Allah for it and relate it to loved ones), a bad dream (nightmare) from Satan (disliked and frightening, it is sunnah to seek refuge in Allah from it, spit three times, and not relate it), and self-talk (confused dreams that have no interpretation).

The disliked, frightening dream should not be interpreted or related, due to the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibition against reporting Satan's manipulation in a dream.

It is not permissible to rely on books for dream interpretation, because interpretation varies with individuals and circumstances. The presence of Qur'anic verses in a book does not necessarily make it correct, as the author's words can be right or wrong.
