Must we repeat the expiation for our father's fasting, as he passed away after breaking his fast for the entire month of Ramadan due to old age and illness? And is it permissible to give money instead of feeding, and what is the required amount to be given if repetition is obligatory?

The majority of jurists do not consider the payment of money to be sufficient for the fasting expiation (fidyah); rather, food must be given, based on the verse: ﴿And upon those who are able to it, is a fidyah of feeding a poor person.﴾ (Quran 2:184). This is also the fatwa issued by the Permanent Committee. Therefore, a Muslim should give for each day the food of one poor person (half a saa' of the staple food of the country, which is approximately 1.5 kilograms). It is permissible to give it all at the end of the month, or to prepare food and invite the poor.

If you have already paid the fidyah in money based on the fatwa of a scholar, you are not required to repeat it. However, if you did so on your own initiative, then it is obligatory to repeat it in the form of food.
