Is it valid to interpret the verse: "And cast out what was within it and became empty" (Qur’an 84:4) as meaning that the material world will decay over time, losing its cohesion and disintegrating, and is this what is intended by the verse: "On the Day when the earth will be changed to other than the earth, and so will be the heavens" (Qur’an 14:48)?

The meaning of the noble verse: ﴿And she cast forth what was in her and became empty﴾ is that the Earth cast forth the dead from her belly, and they departed from her. It was also said: What is meant is what is in her of treasures, such as gold and silver. Ibn Juzayy mentioned that the opinion of casting forth treasures is weak; because that occurs at the time of the emergence of the Dajjal before the Day of Judgment, and what is intended here is the mention of the Day of Judgment. Al-Qurtubi mentioned other interpretations of the verse, including: she cast forth what was in her belly of the dead, and became empty of those alive on her surface. As for His Almighty saying: ﴿On the Day the earth will be changed to other than the earth, and the heavens﴾, this is not what is meant by the verse, rather the commentators mention it in the interpretation of His Almighty saying: ﴿And when the earth is stretched out﴾.
