Why have Muslims fallen behind in contemporary technology?

There are many reasons for the Muslims' backwardness in modern technology, the most important of which is their turning away from the Qur'an and Sunnah. Muslims advanced when they adhered to them, and their deviation from the teachings of their religion led to their decline. Among the reasons for backwardness mentioned by Dr. Nasir bin Sulaiman Al-Omar are: the fall of the Islamic Caliphate, the separation of religion from the state, psychological defeat, ignorance, and the rise of tribalism. This resulted in intellectual deviation, corrupt education, and social imbalance. The remedy lies in a sincere return to Islam, عزت (dignity/glory) and independence, and the return of the scholars' leading role in society.
