1- Was the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, using the garment (al-mart) mentioned in the hadith only inside his house, like in the bedroom, and not outside it? 2- The garment (al-mart) is used by both men and women, so how was it determined that it was Aisha’s garment? Is the reason due to the presence of a feminine design in the garment? 3- What was the reason for Uthman’s shyness in this situation? Was it because the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, uncovered his thigh, or because he was wearing Aisha’s garment? And if the reason was wearing Aisha’s garment, why did Uthman feel shy before the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, because of this situation? Does this action indicate a flaw or deficiency, or was the Prophet wearing women’s attire?

A mirt (مرط) is a garment made of wool, silk, or linen, used as a waist-wrapper. It has also been said to be a general term for a garment, or specifically any unstitched garment. It is used by both men and women, inside and outside the home.

This is supported by what is narrated in Sahih (definition) Muslim that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, went out wearing "a mirt decorated with patterns, made of black hair."

It is also supported by the hadith (definition) agreed upon by Bukhari and Muslim, narrated by Aisha, that the women of the believers used to pray Fajr "wrapped in their muruts (plural of mirt)."

For a man in his home, there is no harm in him covering himself with his household's clothes.

If Uthman knew that the mirt belonged to Aisha, it was perhaps because he had not seen it on the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, before, and its presence in Aisha's house was an indication of that.

As for Uthman's shyness, perhaps he feared that if the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw him without his outdoor clothes, Uthman might think that he (the Prophet) was not ready to receive people, which would prevent him (Uthman) from asking for his need.

Al-Munawi mentioned that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, uncovering his thigh for Uthman meant that he was wearing work clothes, not clothes for going out to meet people.
