What is the method of repentance from ill-gotten money acquired through negligence at work, and how can one dispose of it if it is not currently available, and what is the way to have prayers answered and obtain forgiveness?
If an employee falls short in his work and wishes to absolve himself, he can set aside a portion of his salary corresponding to the time he wasted and return it to the responsible entity, or give it as charity to the poor and needy if returning it to the entity is not feasible. If he does not currently possess the money, he must intend to repay it whenever he is able.
The path to repentance includes seeking forgiveness, regretting the action, resolving not to return to it, and fulfilling the rights of the employer, or seeking their absolution.
As for supplication (Du'a), it should not be abandoned even if the response is delayed, for Allah answers the supplicant as long as he does not grow impatient. Allah may hasten his supplication, or store it for him in the Hereafter, or avert some evil from him because of it.
