Is buying a Wii device unlawful (haram) because it contains games with music, even though its games are movement-based and beneficial for children?

The default ruling is that playing electronic games is permissible, unless they contain impermissible elements, in which case playing them becomes forbidden. It is not permissible for parents to help children listen to forbidden music, lest they become accustomed to it. The Permanent Committee has issued a fatwa stating the impermissibility of using musical instruments in anasheed (Islamic chants) or in education, citing the Almighty's saying: (And among the people is he who buys a diversion of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge) and Al-Bukhari's hadith: (There will be among my Ummah people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks, and the use of musical instruments as lawful). Children should be encouraged with lawful activities and rewards. Ibn 'Uthaymeen was asked about a kindergarten that uses music and dancing, and he replied that whoever enrolls their children in it commits a sin. If the device can be used free from impermissible elements, such as playing games without music or muting its sound, then there is no harm in that.
