Is it permissible for a girl who works in video editing to impersonate a male in her dealings with men by deepening her voice or claiming to be a boy, in order to protect herself?

It is permissible for a woman to speak to men when there is a need, and her voice is not 'awrah (nakedness), but she must avoid being soft in speech so that he in whose heart is a disease does not covet. A woman should speak in clear and concise terms, without softening or making her voice mellifluous. If her voice is naturally soft, she should toughen her speech, or place her hand over her mouth to alter her voice, or use a tissue over the phone's receiver. It is not permissible for her to imitate men or claim to be a man. The "well-known speech" (al-qawl al-ma'roof) is correct speech that is not rejected by the Sharia (definition) or by sound human nature, far from anything that arouses suspicion or tempts a wicked person. It is preferable for a woman to make her voice rougher when addressing non-mahram (definition) men, and if the caller understands that she is a boy without her claiming it or intentionally imitating men, then there is no harm in that. If a woman fears fitna (temptation), she must cut off communication, and she can appoint one of her mahrams to communicate on her behalf.
