What did Ibn Taymiyyah mean by the issue of Kashf (unveiling) and Khawariq (miraculous occurrences), especially his statement: "And if the heart is filled with piety, matters will become clear to it, and will be unveiled... As for the select few, they may know the destinies of people through what Allah unveils to them, but this is not something that requires general affirmation; for much of what is thought to be an unveiling is merely a presumption that avails nothing against the truth. And the people of unveilings and divine communications sometimes hit the mark and sometimes err, just like the people of rational inquiry and inference in matters of ijtihad"?

"Kashf" (unveiling/disclosure) is a type of supernatural phenomenon through which one hears, sees, or knows things that others do not perceive. It can be an inspiration for believers and a karamah (miracle/honor) from Allah, or a psychic unveiling common to both believers and disbelievers. It is a departure from customary norms, whereby Allah informs whomever He wills among His servants about some aspect of the unseen, such as the victory of an army or the death of an absent person. It may also occur to non-believers through fasting and vigils.

Kashf is not an absolute matter; it can be accurate or mistaken. Special individuals may know the consequences of matters through what Allah has unveiled to them, but this does not necessitate general belief. Those who experience kashf can be right or wrong, just like those who rely on intellect and deduction. Therefore, they must adhere to the Qur’an and Sunnah and weigh their insights and observations against them.

Examples of kashf include Abu Bakr's unveiling to Aisha about her pregnancy with a female, Umar's kashf when he said, "O Sariya, the mountain!" (Ya Sariyat al-Jabal), and what occurred to Al-Gilani and Al-Muwaffaq Ibn Qudamah. The sum of it is that kashf is a type of supernatural phenomenon through which its practitioner gains knowledge of some part of the unseen and reports it, and it may be merely a conjecture that can be right or wrong.
