What is the ruling on disposing of a box of chocolates discovered to contain alcohol after its purchase, and is it permissible to gift it to a non-Muslim, knowing that its contents were unknown at the time of purchase?

It is impermissible to offer to a disbeliever that which has been proven to be unlawful, because they are subject to the subsidiary rulings of Islamic law. Similarly, it is not permissible for a human to consume something that is impure or has become impure; rather, it should be given to an animal. If chocolate has wine poured over it, it becomes impure, and its consumption is forbidden. However, if it contains an ingredient whose origin was wine, but it has undergone a transformation (istihala) such that it is no longer intoxicating, then it is pure.
