Should a person whom God has blessed with a beautiful voice, who recites the Qur’an, and who places the Imam’s prayer rug in the mosque, abandon these actions and avoid them for fear of falling into arrogance and conceit, especially since he notices in himself something of arrogance and hypocrisy? And he asks about a supplication to get rid of arrogance, and about the problem of pride in humility and judging people?

The symptoms mentioned are closer to 'ujb (self-admiration), and the difference between it, kibr (arrogance), and joy in obedience has been explained. The mentioned supplications are fine, but it is better to use those that are authentically reported, such as, "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from reprehensible morals, deeds, and desires." It is not advisable to abandon good deeds; rather, one should increase in hidden acts of obedience. One must be careful not to judge people and instead focus on one's own shortcomings. Muhammad ibn Sirin was the most hopeful of people for monotheists and the most fearful for himself.
