How should a husband deal with his wife who insults him and describes him as not being a man, or as being incapable of responsibility, or as being afraid of his mother, and who raises her voice at him when she gets angry due to a misunderstanding with his mother-in-law?

A husband should advise his wife and remind her of his rights over her, and provide her with books and tapes about the husband's rights. If she persists, he may discipline her by boycotting her in bed, then by striking her a non-bruising blow if he believes that will deter her. If these methods are not effective, he should seek help from one of her relatives who has influence over her. If she continues in her defiance, he may divorce her, knowing that divorce is the last resort. He must not allow his wife to push him into being undutiful to his parents.
