What is the ruling on a husband who insults his wife verbally in front of their adult children, and how should he be advised?

The husband must treat his wife kindly and fairly, and strive to win her heart, as Allah Almighty says: "And live with them in kindness." The husband must fear Allah and refrain from harming his wife, and emulate the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in his good treatment of his family. He said: "The most complete in faith among believers is the one with the best character, and the best of you are those who are best to their women." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was gentle with his wives. He clarified the wife's right to food, clothing, and not to be struck on the face, reviled, or abandoned except within the house, and he enjoined kindness towards women. The wife must strive to pray for her husband and be patient with harm, for Allah does not waste the reward of those who do good.
