The answer

Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak was an Imam, a Hafiz (memorizer of the Qur’an and Hadith), a jurist, a linguist, an ascetic, generous, and courageous. He was born in the year 118 AH. He frequently participated in military campaigns (ghazw) and performed Hajj. He spent his wealth on scholars and worshippers. Scholars unanimously agreed upon the acceptance, appreciation, eminence, imamate, and uprightness of Ibn al-Mubarak. He passed away in the year 181 AH at the age of approximately 63.

Ibn al-Mubarak was one of the Imams of Sunnah and a prominent figure among the people of Hadith. He adhered to the methodology of the Pious Predecessors (Salaf as-Salih) in the doctrine of Names and Attributes, affirming them for Allah Almighty as they were revealed in the Qur’an and Sunnah, without ta’wil (allegorical interpretation) or tahrif (distortion), while believing in the transcendence of the Lord from any resemblance to creation. Among the proofs of his Salafi creed is his statement: "Allah is in the seventh heaven upon His Throne, and we do not say, as the Jahmiyyah say, that He is here on earth." He also agreed with the stance of declaring the Jahmiyyah disbelievers.
