Is it permissible for an unlearned person to judge an attribute as a deficiency and immediately deny it, or should he pause and refer it to the Qur’an and Sunnah?
The people of the Qiblah have agreed that Allah is characterized by perfection and free from imperfection, but they have differed in defining perfection and imperfection. The groups that state something they know to be imperfect are considered non-Muslim. The correct method for negation and affirmation is what Allah has described Himself with in His books, and what His messengers have described Him with, without distortion, nullification, anthropomorphizing, or likening. The messengers affirmed attributes of perfection for Allah and absolved Him of imperfections and of resembling creation. As for the layman, he must refer to the people of knowledge concerning what he does not know, for the cure for ignorance is asking.
