What is the characteristic of deficiency, antithetical to perfection, that must be affirmed when negating the attribute of sight, by analogy with the negation of the attribute of life necessitating the affirmation of death, and the negation of the attribute of knowledge necessitating the description of God as ignorant?

The attributes of Allah Almighty are divided into: affirmative and negative.

Affirmative attributes are those that Allah has affirmed for Himself in His Book or through the tongue of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). All of them are attributes of perfection, free from any deficiency, such as the Face and the two Hands.

Negative attributes are those that Allah has negated from Himself in His Book or through the tongue of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). All of them are attributes of deficiency in His regard, such as death and sleep.

The rule of Ahl al-Sunnah in affirming attributes is to affirm what Allah has affirmed for Himself or His Messenger, without distortion, negation, asking how, or likening.

Regarding negation: it is to negate what Allah has negated from Himself or His Messenger, while believing in the affirmation of the perfection of its opposite for Allah, because negation is not perfection unless it entails perfection.

Revelation has affirmed the attribute of the eye for Allah Almighty, as in His saying: "And that you might be brought up under My eye" (20:39), and His saying: "sailing under Our eyes" (54:14). And the negation of blindness from Him in the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, Allah is not one-eyed," necessitates the affirmation of two eyes for Allah.
