How do we respond to those who say that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was merely an ordinary man before the revelation?

The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was a human being chosen by Allah Almighty and distinguished above all other humans. He was neither a god nor an angel. Before his prophethood, he was characterized by qualities and miracles, among them his infallibility from prostrating to idols and drinking alcohol, the stone greeting him with salutations, the splitting of his noble chest and the removal of the devil's portion from it, his protection from nudity, the cloud shading him, and his truthful visions that materialized like the break of dawn.
