Does a man have to relieve himself only from his penis?

Malik, Al-Tabarani, and others narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you goes to relieve himself (urinate or defecate), he should not face the Qiblah nor turn his back to it with his private parts." This indicates that the term "farj" (private parts) applies to both the front and back private parts of a person.

Ibn Abd al-Barr emphasized that both the front and back private parts are called "farj." Linguists have stated that "farj" encompasses the private parts of both men and women, any opening between two things, and what is between a person's legs, and it is used euphemistically for the private parts. The Qur'an used the word "farj" to denote the private parts, as in the verses: "And she who guarded her private parts" (21:91) and "And those who guard their private parts" (23:5). Thus, it is clear that "farj" refers to both the male organ and the anus.
