To what extent is it valid to designate the recitation of specific Surahs from the Quran, such as "Surah Yasin" 41 times, or sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) a specific number of times (such as 10,000 times), for the fulfillment of needs and the realization of desires?

Reading Surat Ya-Sin or other surahs, or invoking blessings upon the Prophet a specific number of times for the purpose of fulfilling needs and realizing desires, has no basis in Islamic law. This is an innovation, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever introduces into this matter of ours that which is not of it, it is rejected." Worship must be legislated in its origin, description, time, and place. Adhering to specific numbers, methods, and forms for which there is no evidence is considered an innovation, as mentioned by Al-Shatibi. The fact that an act is inherited or has led to results does not indicate its legitimacy. Goodness lies in following the predecessors. One must avoid these innovations and suffice with the legislated supplications and remembrances that Allah has made a means for fulfilling needs, such as the supplication of the distressed, and invoking Allah by His Most Beautiful Names and the Greatest Name.
