What is the ruling on a pregnant woman who broke her fast in Ramadan due to pregnancy and did not make up the missed days before the onset of the following Ramadan, and what is the extent of the expiation, and is it permissible to offer it as a communal iftar for orphans?

Your wife must make up the days she missed. There is no harm in delaying until the time becomes tight before the next Ramadan. If she is prevented from making them up until the next Ramadan arrives, there is no sin upon her, nor is there any expiation (fidyah), and she must make them up after Ramadan. However, if she was negligent and did not make them up without an excuse until Ramadan began, then she must repent, make them up, and offer expiation (fidyah), which is feeding seven needy persons for each day – a Mudd for each needy person. It is permissible to give the expiation to one needy person or to feed several needy persons. It should not be given to orphans unless they are poor.
